The foundation and future...

Gericault, The Raft of the Medusa

A trip to the Louvre Museum in Paris changed the direction of my life when I saw the painting in the image and thought, "How do they take care of it?"

A few years later, I attended the University of Illinois at Chicago where I earned a BA in Art History with a Certificate in Museum Studies.  Through an internship, which I started in my second semester, I worked with the University's Art Study Collection, and was asked to begin processing the Papers of Artist/Professor Richard Koppe, under the watchful eye of the University's Certified Archivist. During my final semester, in the Spring of 2006, I was offered work as a Consulting Archivist.

I have worked with a wide variety of Archives clients including Shure, Inc., The American Hospital Association (Walter McNerney Papers), The Union League Club of Chicago and the Town & Country Public Library - Elburn Historical Collection. It was at the Union League Club that my interest in genealogy was resurrected as I assisted many researchers in their efforts to locate information about their relatives in the ULCC’s collection. I was thrilled to negotiate the reunion of a researcher with her grand uncle after they each requested information on the same relative a few months apart.

I reinitiated my own genealogical research, begun in 1996, and shortly after started my blog,
The Last Leaf On This Branch. My passion for both Archives and Genealogy came together, and I realized that too many family historians and genealogists haven't been provided with the education to understand the best practices for the care and handling of their own material.  I hope to be able to share what I know, both through this website and working directly with clients, to help them gain intellectual and physical control over their family history materials.  The services I provide can be found here; I'm always happy to answer questions that you may have about your own material, so please feel free to contact me.

I am a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Society of American Archivists, National Genealogical Society, Association of Professional Genealogists, National Trust for Historic Preservation, International Society of Family History Writers and Editors, New England Historic Genealogical Society, Ohio Genealogical Society, Illinois State Genealogical Society, Hamilton County (OH) Genealogical Society, St. Louis Genealogical Society and the Fox Valley (IL) Genealogical Society.

I enjoy a wide array of other interests including Social media, technology, paleography, languages, travel, great food, a wonderful cup of coffee and stimulating conversation.
